Greenhouse Grower (Horticulture)

The SilvaGro Partnership, 275 Lear Road, B.C. Canada, requires a Head Grower to oversee our Greenhouse operations in Quesnel, B.C., Canada. 

Reporting to the Site Manager, the successful candidate will be a senior member of our growing and production team, with primary responsibility for all operational phases of forest seedling production. You will have a good understanding of greenhouse environments and plant sciences, with an emphasis on seedling nutrition and cultural practices.

You will have good leadership skills, as you will be responsible for the supervision of the growing team and seasonal crews of up to 100 people.

Qualifications:
• The successful applicant should have a degree in Horticulture, preferably with a specialization in greenhouse crops . Additionally, you should have extensive experience in the containerized production of tree seedlings, in greenhouse and outdoor compound environments.
• A proven track record of mentoring and supervision of Assistant Growers and Horticulturists
• An excellent history of management and supervision of work crews of up to 100 people
• Broad experience of stakeholder engagement, including communications with owners, staff, competitors, and government officials,
• A working knowledge of computer-based greenhouse climate controls would be a definite asset, as would be good familiarity with Microsoft Excel, Word and Powerpoint
• Training and experience in Project Management
• Broad experience in site valuation, asset management, and rolling stock management
• Extensive familiarity with contracts, including preparing competitive bids
• Excellent client liaison and customer services skills

In operation since 1985, The SilvaGro Partnership is one of the largest forest nursery companies in Canada, producing 45 million seedlings annually for clients throughout the Western Provinces. We provide growing and cold storage services from two sites: an outdoor compound facility near Kamloops, B.C., producing mainly pine seedlings, and a greenhouse facility in Quesnel growing primarily Spruce, Douglas Fir, and Larch trees.
