Our client is a dynamic and rapidly expanding company. In this tropical location irrigated forestry and cutting edge crop production technology combine to produce one of the most unique forestry projects in Australia. 

With seedling production set to increase significantly they have created the new position of Nursery Manager. Reporting to the State Manager, the Nursery Manager will be responsible for the day to day nursery operations including supervision of up to twenty casual staff, ensuring seedlings meet required specifications and assist in the continual improvement of the nursery's safety, quality and operational efficiencies.

They are looking for an enthusiastic person who has a background in nursery or Horticulture who is confident in managing the technical requirements of the nursery but who also enjoys people management as this will be an important part of the role as the company continues to grow.  

Main Duties:

  • Assist with production and day to day running of the nursery
  • Planning and forecasting
  • Budgets
  • Propagation of seedlings
  • Ability to make technical decisions on plant nutrition, pest and disease control programs.
  • Staff supervision of  permanent and casual staff
  • Ability to accurately build and maintain computer reports of nursery activities
Qualifications & attributes:

  • Diploma or Degree in Horticulture/Agriculture or related discipline.
  • Current LR Drivers Licence
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Excel and Word
  • A good knowledge of nutritional requirements of nursery stock, pest and disease identification, chemical application and plant physiology.
  • Irrigation knowledge and experience.
  • Supervisory experience - good communication skills and understanding of workplace health and safety.
  • Be able to work autonomously.
  • Applied practical skills - be able to maintain and operate nursery machinery and equipment.
